“Good Night Moon” is one of the best DVD’s parents/grandparents can buy for their pre-schoolers. It really sets the mood and allows them to calm down to get ready to sleep. The reason I purchased this DVD is because my grandson wore out his first one.

About how much would this Disney DVD Collection be valued at?

  1. Neo Says:

I can vouch for the fact that these are not all New York kids, because my son is in it (he’s 6 in the movie, and is going to college next year), and we’re from North Carolina. The HBO people used two elementary schools in Durham–one public and one private–and a number of schools–I don’t know how many–in New York. But at least half of the kids you see are North Carolinian.

  2. Barz Says:

Not only does this cover the classic of Good Night Moon, but a number of other stories and songs. What we particularly like are the bigger kids (older than our 3 year old) who help explain concepts that toddlers are just beginning to grasp, which helps make the monster in the closet seem less scary. It’s strange that there are reviews critiquing this, which obviously miss the point.

The mix of interviews with bigger kids and stories keeps our child interested.

  3. Eng Says:

We only watch a few of the ‘chapters’ in this DVD, but they are great. “Goodnight moon” is done wonderfully by Susan Sarandon. Billy Crystal lends his voice to “There’s a Nightmare in my Closet” by Mercer Mayer. We use this as part of my 10 month old’s bedtime routine. The HBO series of Classical Baby is great to add to the baby DVD collection.

  4. Ni Says:

We have two 4-year-olds who ask to watch this DVD every night. And it puts them right to sleep! The music and illustrations are fantastic! We were given this DVD, but I have since ordered several as gifts.

  5. Goldwater Says:

I have seen several trailers of this movie and wish it was out on DVD. It is so funny and Marlon Brando is definitely a great comedic actor. Next to this one, the Countess of Hong Kong with Marlon Brando was a riot. Please put this one out on DVD.

  6. Heilman Says:

Hmmm. Well, it’s a good thing I’ve already seen this film, cause it’s not compatable with my DVP-NS55P Sony DVD player. All regions? I don’t think so.

  7. Cannon Says:

Worth buying just to see the “Great” Marlon Brando playing a dim witted but endearing playboy to David Nivens’ suave, elegant and debonoir character . The original version of “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels”, Bedtime Story follows the amusing antics of two “gold digging” scoundrels competing for the favors and fortunes of wealthy widows in Europe’s playgrounds of the rich.

  8. Cass Says:

I was ten when the movie came out, my dad encouraged me to watch it years later when it played on television. I was hooked…

Brando is hilarious as the American GI in Europe, an egotist, sometimes crude, a hustler, preying on gorgeous woman through sympathy, his good looks and his almost pathetic, hilarious charm….David Niven is the slick, cool, rich charming Englishman and yes, he’s also as conniving as Brando. Though Niven is a bit smarter than “Freddy” (Brando) – It makes for a weird but funny,= and brief partnership between Niven and Brando, to seduce & fleece some very rich, sometimes beautiful, but always naive & trusting women.

And thus begins an even funnier competition between Brando and Niven, as the movie really gets rolling now…as each character underestimates the other in cons and setups, then untimely outwits the other…all the way until the final twist of an ironic and funny ending to the film.

One of the funniest, interesting and truly well written comedies to come out of that early 60’s era, (1964) or any era…It’s a must see…Accept no substitutes, i.e. “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels”!

  9. Fink Says:

Sad, but true, there was heretofore no information about the actual contents of this DVD set. It goes as follows:

    Disc One: 6 Stories-75 minutes——
Elbert’s Bad Word by Ringo Starr / Weird Parents by Bette Midler / Little Toot and the Loch Ness Monster by Rick Moranis / Choo Choo by Bonnie Raitt / Elizabeth and Larry by Jean Stapleton / Bill and Pete by Dudley Moore

    Disc Two: 7 Stories-75 minutes——
Blumpoe The Grumpo Meets Arnold the Cat by John Candy / Millions of Cats by James Earl Jones / There’s a Nightmare in My Closet by Michael J. Fox / There’s an Alligator Under My Bed by Christian Slater / There’s Something in My Attic by Sissy Spacek / Patrick’s Dinosaurs by Martin Short / What Happened to Patrick’s Dinosaurs by Martin Short

    Disc Three: 6 Stories-78minutes——
Tugford Wanted To Be Bad by Steve Martin / Little Penguin’s Tale by Candice Bergen / Moe The Dog in Tropical Paradise by Richard Dreyfuss / Amos, The Story Of An Old Dog and His Couch by Morgan Freeman / My New Neighbors by Billy Crystal / Rotten Island by Charles Grodin

    Disc Four: 7 Stories-105 minutes——
The Little Rabbit Who Wanted Red Wings by Shelley Duvall / Katy No-Pockets by Mary Steenburgen / Bootsie Barker Bites by Rhea Perlman / Ruby The Copycat by Shelley Long / Aunt Ippy’s Museum of Junk by Kathy Bates / Uncle Wizzmo’s New Used Car by Ed Begley, Jr. / The Christmas Witch by Angela Lansbury

Naturally these are read by, not authored by the various actors and actresses. The books chosen are not all time-worn children’s classics, many are much more recent than Millions of Cats. I probably read only a fifth of these titles to my own children, which were read to constantly. However, parents and children love these DVD stories. Parents will get a kick out hearing John Candy, Steve Martin, and Angela Lansbury tell the stories. It is far preferable to read to a child on your lap for many reasons. But, these renditions are good for the times when someone has to get dinner on the table or nurse a sick cat. It will heighten the child’s appreciation of books in general and, I believe, help encourage many to become good readers.

  10. Nickelson Says:

Shelly Duvall’s bedtime stories is a wonderful collection of children’s literature and the graphics are in keeping with the illustrations in the books. My granddaughter is thrilled with them. What a wonderful way to introduce children to these classic tales.

  11. Lamas Says:

My grandchildren have loved each and every Shelley Duvall’s Bedtime Story on VHS tapes, and now we can get them all in one DVD collection! Terrific news! They love Little Toot and the Loch Ness Monster, Elizabeth & Larry, Weird Parents, Millions of Cats, Choo Choo, There’s an Alligator Under My Bed, Tugford Wanted to Be Bad, Bootsie Barker Bites, and many, many more. I always felt confident letting them watch these animated books (with Shelley Duvall’s delightful introductions and the celebrities reading them so well) because it was as if I were sitting there reading good literature to them. These are the best DVDs ever and they hold the attention of 2-7 year olds!

  12. Josephson Says:

We use to let our 3yr. old grandson watch a couple of Shelley Duvall Bedtime Stories when they were ON DEMAND on cable, before he went to bed. Then they took them off. So when I discovered them on amazon, I was excited. They are fabulous. Our grandson loves them. They have become a bedtme ritual. I would very highly recommend these to anyone.

  13. Cutler Says:

“Bedtime Stories” was a late night cable TV series. This DVD contains three episodes: “Blind Fold”, “First Love”, and “The Rival”. The stories all center around a brothel run by Kim Dawson. Women come to her to get help for problems with their sex life. It’s almost identical to the types of stories contained in Mainline’s “Secrets of the Kama Sutra” releases and is produced by the same people responsible for those stories. And like “Secrets”, the stories aren’t really that interesting, but deliver plenty of well done sex scenes.

There are a total of eleven sex scenes. Five are boy/girl. Two are boy/girl, with another girl watching and providing her own entertainment. One is boy/girl/girl. One is girl solo. Two are girl/girl. The women are beautiful and include several softcore A listers: Kim Dawson, Gabriella Hall, Flower, Taimie Hannum, and Samantha Phillips.

“Diary of Seduction” is a typical low budget softcore feature film with a standard “thriller” plot. Call girl. Murder. Female private investigator who goes undercover. Nothing new here. It’s a decent softcore flick, but nothing special. Perfectly suited to be the B side on a double feature release.

It contains nine sex scenes. Six are boy/girl. One is boy/girl with second girl watching. One is boy/girl/girl. One is girl/girl. The sex scenes are okay, but not great. They are just a little on the tame side, with the camera only occasionally panning down to the nether regions during the action. The women are all attractive. Some of them are also adult film stars. I was familiar with Nicole Sheridan, Amy Lindsay, and Kaylynn from other videos. The other two women, Wendy Rice and Tina Tyler, were new to me.

This DVD is worth getting for “Bedtime Stories” alone. “Diary of Seduction” has some good stuff too, and makes it a better value. This one is very recommended.

  14. Carlin Says:

I bought this DVD for our two parrots about a year ago. (They LOVE watching kid’s movies!) I can tell it is one of their favorites because they become very animated when we play it. There are several really cute Sesame Street songs on this DVD, but one of our favorites is, “I Dance Myself to Sleep”. When this song starts both birds get on the closest perch to the TV set and dance back and forth from foot to foot. One of them flaps her wings. I can’t resist singing along when I hear it and dancing along with them. One of the endearing segments of the DVD is a scene with Big Bird where he tells how to snuggle in to go to sleep. He talks about getting nice and comfy and putting your head under your wing and then stops and says, “Well, maybe we’re all not birds…” This just makes me grin from ear to ear!

One nice thing about this DVD is that it has the auto play feature which means it will start over on it’s own when it’s finished. That’s always a big plus, not to have to go in and restart it each time.

Children without wings and feathers would likely be even more delighted than the birds with this sweet DVD. The Sesame Street characters are cute and the songs are entertaining. There is lots of music and color all the way through. It’s a little bit lively in some parts but not so much so that I think it would keep children awake. Heck, I don’t mind watching it and find myself humming the songs at different times. If we ever wear it out, it’s one that would be replaced right away.
