I have recently become impressed with Doug Pray’s documentary work. Infamy is about the graffiti sub-culture. He follows 5 or 6 of the more prolific taggers to see how they work and listen to their thoughts. It really gave me insight into why these guys (and girls) have a passion for their particular brand of art. He also includes one “buffer”, which is a guy who eliminates graffiti in his neighborhood. The buffer was pretty funny because his last scene essentially shows that he is really a form of tagger!

There is some good footage of the artists actually creating their work with markers or spray paint. It really drew a striking parallel with calligraphy. Their motions are often so practiced and smooth that the movements seem to be as much art as the final result. Of course there are also shots of many beautiful works in the film. If you have any interest in the graffiti scene, check out this film.

I got a notice of violation from housing code enforcement for graffiti and trash, plz see detail for the ques?
as stated above i got ticketed for a little graffiti on the garage door and a few tires in my back yard and gave me 10 days to fix it. I fixed it the very next day and called the lady with my case # and she said she will check on my property to clear the ticket. she never called me back so i called her and she said everything is ok ,,i said could u plz send me something in writing that Graffiti San Bernardino its been cleared but she said her words were good enough. i called back to make sure and her manger said the ticket is still standing,,it seems like they just want to waste time for the 10 days to pass by so they can fine me!! i already took pictures and send them via registered mail and i am going to their offices personally tomoroh but i feel like they just want to waste time so they can have their revenue and save their jobs. plz can anyone recommend what i can do or say to these evil people,,first the bank wanted to forclosue on me and now code enforcement wants to bill me $62 an hour!!! this is their web site http://www.co.san-bernardino.ca.us/landuseservices/default.htm i still have 3 days left,,how can i make these people see my house and clear my ticket without them wasting time?? its not as easy as it may seem they are dirty rotten thievs and they lieeeeeeeeeeeeee and also there is graffiti and trash all over the city fwys and signs but they never do anything about that.

This dvd shows some of the biggest names in graffiti art. The dvd gets the opinion of each graffiti artist and a guy who tries to get rid of tagging in his city. This is a good dvd I just didn’t like the atittude of most of the graffiti artists because they make it seem like in order to make it big you have to go through them first and that you must go through tough times to be respected. These aren’t the BEST graff. artist they are just well known or over rated. Entertaining film but don’t assume that graffiti is what they say it is, they have their own opinions. These graff artists act like they know everything and it gets annoying but what makes this a good film is the images you see and their passion for it.

Like most of Doug Pray’s films (Scratch, Surfwise, Big Rig), he takes a subculture that has strong negative connotations and puts a human face to it. Like most people, I have had mixed feeling about graffiti. I’ve seen some amazing murals by graf artists, but the signature scrawls you see everywhere tend to piss me off. But after I saw this film, at least now I look at it in a different way. Great stuff. I will never look at graffiti the same way again.

this movie is more on individual bombers.its alright lacks in its tags bombs murials but hey.it was good but if you are a bomber then this movie will sorta leave you with an unsettling depression by the end. as if all your work and life deicaded to this art just leads nowhere.i cant fully say that .style wars i would recommend over this you learn the origin of graffiti.

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2W9581V6A9SBS This movie is brilliant. I am so amazed by the superior filmmaking styles and techniques. I wouldn’t be surprised if this film won an academy award some day. I wish that they would start making more classic films like the golden era of 1920s era prohibition. That would be a really exciting time and a great way to stimulate the economy through gambling and fun times.Best of Yukmouth

This is a visual knockout– a must see for anyone interested in urban art and culture. The text works as a compliment to the visuals and takes the reader on an artistic, intellectual and political ride through the Mission Disrict of San Fransico. Ms. Jacoby had the vision to recognise the District”s specialness years ago. This book has gone through a long gestation which has made it all the better since there is now moe mural art to photograph and discuss. Perhaps there will be a sequel since the District is a works in progress. I hope so. Lastly, at its price it is a super buy.

I make documentaries about art and culture and have profiled artists like David LaChapelle and Patricia Field. Street Art San Francisco is a book that captures the most extraordinary, hip, hot pioneers of the street art movement. Of all the books about street art around the world, it is rare to find one that has the breadth and depth of history, culture, and in your face fierce photography. The essays stimulate, the poetry pulses, the photos rock, and the book is just pure fun, like the best taco in the mission its filled with sabor y style. Estoy enamorada con este libro!

A cinematic tour-de-force except it’s a book! The pages are ALIVE just like the neighborhood
where the art got born – jammed with energy, color, texture, wit, pulse, reverence and irreverence
in equal measure. This deeply nourishing offering can be a tasty browsing treat or a full-course
    meal. Shelf-life? Infinite.

This dynamic, inspired collection is no ordinary coffee table tome. In thoughtful, concise essays, Jacoby has included the history of muralismo, SF politics, portraits of the artists and sociological analyses of transformed neighborhoods and buildings. Anyone interested in muralismo, painting, San Francisco history and SF present will delight in this thoroughly researched, always engaging gorgeous book by Abrams.
