Some Opterons (series 2xx) were the real speed devils back in the Pentium era.Yes you can use an Opteron chip and you’ll need Registered memory for that and you’ll lose some Games speed.Desktop apps work real fast w/ Opterons.DVD ripping, 3d games, is slower than Athlon XPst4ke c4re

A new motherboard should be around $150.

the price? jkthe two cores differ in that Deneb has a huge L3 cachealso it has higher overclock potential.

The first question is what processor(s) CAN you upgrade to.I’m pretty certain that you can only put another AMD in there.Dig around on AMD.com & find out the type of socket that the current CPU uses. Then, look at CPUs in the same line. Newer CPUs (2 core, 4 core) likely won’t fit.

If your not going to overclock, the stock cpu cooler will be fine. I mean its not great by any means, but it will get the job done. If you want to spend $30+ on a cpu cooler by all means do it.

Yes, you can put a dual core AMD in your HP. But … it has to be a socket 939 dual core processor.Your motherboard is the Asus A8AE-LE ( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=env&cc=us&docname=c00571922 ) and according to HP( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00496280&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en ) you can use these processors: # Socket: 939# Supports the following processors: * AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+What you are looking for is model ADA4800CDBOXGood luck finding one at a reasonable price – they are scarce.

It is an Athlon XP+ This is what you have:Athlon XP 3200+ 2200 MHz 512 KiB 400 MT/s 11x 1.65 V 76.8 W May 13, 2003 AXDA3200DKV4E It is a Socket AYou might want to read this if you intend to do a pin mod. Its on a similar processor to yours:http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/170552-29-m7ncd-athlon

The 7750 is more worth it. $10 cheaper for losing 100MHz, which can easily be made up for by bumping up the multiplier by .5 in the BIOS. But the 7×50s are equivalent to 3.2GHz Athlon 64 X2s so you should see a noticeable improvement.

Definitely.

Check the processor spec’s at the AMD website. Should be the same the world over,(also check mobo spec’s, to really be sure it’s compatible with the cpu.) The only thing that changes to my knowledge, is the power supply voltage setting, either 110 volts AC, or 220.

AMD chips have always had the Memory Controller/Northbridge, on the body of the CPU, hence no Memory BUS, This is one reason why they are better. They do have a companion Chipset that looks after the rest.So – They do not contain a North bridge. I think that your teacher may be biased a bit, as the AMD64X2 are far superior to the Pentium class, that was a generation back a least. Just look at the differences in transistor numbers, transfer speeds. And yes even the socket 939s, where in a class of there own.

You need an AMD motherboard chipset with ACC (advanced clock calibration) support (SB710 or SB750 southbridge) or an Nvidia motherboard chipset with the similar NVCC (NVIDIA Clock Calibration) feature. Then it’s just a matter of enabling those options in BIOS, and seeing if it works.

What is the model/make of your motherboard? You will get better answers if you provide that
March 23rd, 2011 at 4:03 am
That depends on the model. Give a specific Athlon CPU model for the best answer.

Highly doubtful because if anything limits you with upgraded programs later it is usually your ram or video card. The processor will not limit you very much being as you probably wont even cause it to kick into the 2nd core of it.

assuming same speed and cache they are the same chips.Opterons are supposed to be tested more, and as such have earned the rep as good over clockers.over clocking is a crap shoot no matter which you choose.
